Fatai Adegoke, a teacher at Soun High School, Ogbomosho in Oyo State has lost his life allegedly in the hands of his own students.

It was gathered that the deceased had caught a group of students gambling in a classroom and reprimanded them.

However, the enraged students allegedly descended on him and hacked him to death.

They reportedly inflicted severe injuries, including broken limbs before he was rushed to a hospital but later died due to the injuries.

“With deep pain and righteous indignation, we mourn the tragic and avoidable death of Mr. Fatai Adegoke, a dedicated teacher who was brutally attacked by his own students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours,” a statement by concerned educators read.

“This horrifying act is not just an assault on one man, it is an attack on the entire teaching profession.”

The Educators blamed moral decay in schools and homes for the tragic incident, and called on authorities to restore safety and discipline within learning institutions.

The statement urged the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, TESCOM, and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against those responsible, adding that parents of the suspects should also be held accountable.

Meanwhile, the students involved in the dastardly act have reportedly gone into hiding while the public have enjoined the authorities to put immediate measures in place for the protection of teachers and to ensure that classrooms remain safe spaces for learning and discipline.
