Born on August 27, 1928, to Mr. Diala and Mrs. Lydia Mbelugbo Ekwe of Dile Kindred, Emohe Emii, Owerri North Local Government Area, Mama Beatrice lived a life distinguished by unwavering faith, service, sacrifice and love.
A devoted Christian, prayer was central to her daily life. Even in old age and during periods of ill health, she remained committed to morning and evening family prayers. She loved Christian hymns, Bible reading and church attendance, missing Sunday worship only when serious illness made it unavoidable.
As the wife of an Anglican catechist, she faithfully supported her husband’s ministry while contributing to the family’s welfare through her fish, stockfish and palm-oil trading business. Their family lived in several communities, including Obiangwu, Akabo, Awaka and Egbelu Obube in Ulakwo, where her industry, warmth and commitment endeared her to the church and wider community.
Mama was also a Bible teacher who prepared local women for admission into the Anglican Church’s Mothers’ Union, helping to deepen their faith and understanding of God’s Word.
Within her extended family and kindred, she was the last surviving elder of her generation, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, resilience and selfless service.
She is survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, relatives, friends and well-wishers, who will cherish her memory and the enduring values she embodied.
As family, friends and well-wishers gather to bid her farewell, Ezinne Beatrice Katukoma Ajoku’s life stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith, family and service to God and humanity.
