Kidnapped ex-DVC of Ekiti State University found dead

The remains of Prof. Femi Olaofe, the kidnapped former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, have been found.

The body, which  was buried in a shallow grave, was discovered along Airport Road, Ado-Ijan area of the state.

Security operatives reportedly informed the family about the grisly discovery in a meeting in Ado Ekiti, the state’s capital.

The former DVC and his gateman were  kidnapped from his residence at the Housing Estate on Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti on July 9, 2024.

The kidnappers had contacted the family, demanding payment of a N50 million ransom before releasing their victim.

Although they later slashed their demand to N15 million., it is not clear if it was paid before the septuagenarian’s corpse was discovered.

Announcing the death of the retired DVC,  Professor Femi Oke, the President of Are-Ekiti Progressive Union, APU, said mournfully: “It is with heavy earth that we announce the untimely death of our Community Leader, Prof. Olorunfemi Olaofe, in our today’s meeting with the security agents of the government. His body was found in a shallow grave along Airport road.”

However, Adeniran Akinwale, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident but added that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the abduction and death of the retired university don.
