Payments due to Computer-Based Test centres involved in Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) infractions during the 2025 UTME have been withheld by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, announced the decision when he received a delegation from MTN-Nigeria, which paid him a courtesy visit.
Oloyede noted with dismay that some unscrupulous CBT centre owners deliberately circumvented the operations of its devices through the relocation of their allocated routers as well as engaging in acts capable of undermining the sanctity of the Board’s examination monitoring and surveillance. He disclosed that in some instances, these centres covered the lens of their CCTV to carry out nefarious activities during the course the examination.
He frowned at these unacceptable practices noting that the installation of CCTV is to monitor, record or provide surveillance in the course of any given examination.
Consequently, Oloyede stated that the Board would not be paid for services rendered any centre it cannot watch monitor, as deterrent to would-be infractors.
He pointed out that some of these centres intentionally deactivated their SIMs and relocated their routers to commit atrocities, adding that some changed their assigned IP address and blamed poor network of service providers.
Besides, the registrar stated that the fight against examination malpractice required collective effort if the nation wishes to tame the monster.
While briefing the MTN delegation on the perceived hitches that occurred during the release of the 2025 UTME results, he stated that the matter went beyond negligence as some indications of sophisticated hi-tech fraud were detected and the perpetrators apprehended.
The registrar also cited photo blending and fingerprint irregularities as novel ways of cheating and urged the telecom giant to join hands in its crusade to curb the menace.
JAMB also used occasion of the meeting to discuss the operations of Underage SIM, “Keep my Number” Customised SIM and other ancillary services coupled with a call for improved service delivery to the Board. He hinted that no fewer than 130 CBT centres would be delisted owing to their involvement in these criminal acts.
Earlier, the Acting General Manager, Regional Operations, North-West, Mr. Ohwofasa Obazenu, said the delegation had come on the courtesy visit in view of recent happenings and to reiterate their commitment to the Board’s digital transformation.
He said the achievements recorded by JAMB in carrying out it’s responsibility are exemplary and pledged the MTN’s willingness to enhance the already established relationship.
