Gunmen have invaded Baure village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing 21 persons.
This was even as Nigerian troops eliminated 299 terrorists.
According to the Katsina State Police Command in a statement by Abubakar Aliyu, its spokesperson, said the gunmen targeted a joint team of Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and vigilante members, who were ambushed while returning from a condolence visit on Tuesday.
“The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from police operatives attached to Safana Divisional Headquarters, who rushed to the scene and restored normalcy,” Aliyu disclosed.
“Sadly, 21 persons were fatally shot as a result of the attack.”
He promised to provide updates on ongoing investigations, adding that efforts were on to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
Meanwhile, Nigerian troops have killed no fewer than 109 terrorists a few days after six soldiers were killed on the battlefield.
Disclosing the development in a statement on Friday, January 10, 2025, Major General Edward Buba, the Defence Spokesman, said the armed forces remain focused and are continuing their counter-insurgency campaign against terrorist and their collaborators across the country.
Buba also disclosed that troops also rescued 43 hostages, arrested six suspected oil thieves, and recovered stolen crude worth N618,756,470.00 during the period.
