Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, an ex-Minister of State for Education and former member of the House of Representatives, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Nigerian presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
His announcement adds another experienced hand to the growing list of aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the highly anticipated general elections.
A trained lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989, Nwajiuba brings over three decades of public service experience to his campaign.
He previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, where he oversaw strategic funding for higher education development nationwide.
He also held legislative and executive roles, giving him a rare perspective on Nigeria’s governance and policy challenges.
Speaking on his presidential ambition, Nwajiuba stressed that Nigeria’s growing socio-economic and political challenges require leaders with proven competence, not mere rhetoric.
“Rhetoric without substance has consistently failed to address Nigeria’s problems,” he said. “What we need is leadership anchored on clear policies, capable institutions, and practical solutions that genuinely improve the lives of Nigerians.”
Nwajiuba, who also holds a doctorate degree, emphasised that his years across different arms of government have given him a holistic understanding of policymaking, public finance, and governance structures.
“My experience as a legislator, minister, and head of national institutions has equipped me to lead a complex nation like Nigeria,” he noted, underlining his readiness to tackle the country’s pressing challenges.
Observers say Nwajiuba’s entry signals a shift in the political discourse, highlighting the increasing demand for leaders with technical expertise and policy-driven approaches. His campaign promises to focus on competence, negotiation, and grassroots engagement, aiming to deliver results rather than slogans.
With his declaration, Nwajiuba officially joins the fray for the 2027 presidency, marking the beginning of a new chapter in a race that promises to be one of Nigeria’s most competitive yet.
