The Federal Government has announced that the National Association of Nigeria nurses and midwives, NANNM, agreed to suspend the strike after a meeting, in Abuja.
According to the Federal Government, the strike was suspended, following an agreement reached at a meeting between the Federal Government and the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Saturday, August 2, and endorsed by Mr Haruna Mamman, and Dr T.A. Shettima. the National President and National Secretary, respectively of NANNM.
The Ministers of Health, Labour and Employment, and other key stakeholders were involved in the resolution of the conflict.
The NANNM NEC agreed to suspend the strike after an extensive review of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, and the agreed time-bound implementation framework .
The NEC acknowledged the positive steps taken by the Federal Government in addressing the association’s nine core demands and consequently directed the national leadership to continue monitoring the implementation of the signed MoU and to track government compliance with the agreed timelines.
It also mandated all state councils to mobilise members for immediate resumption of duty.
“NEC resolved that no member of NANNM, including interns and locum nurses, should be victimised for participating in the nationwide nurses’ strike,” the notice said.
NANNM reiterated its commitment to the welfare, dignity, and professional rights of all nurses and midwives in Nigeria while appreciating the the solidarity of members throughout the duration of the industrial action.
