Four persons escaped death by the whiskers when a three‑storey building collapsed in Lagos on Thursday morning.
The ill-fated building was located at 2/4 Asesi Lane, also known as Sasi Lane (SASI Palace), off Adeniji Adele Road on Lagos Island.
The rescued victims, who were pulled out alive from the rubble of the building, were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, confirmed the incident in a post on his Facebook account, saying though the cause of the collapse is not yet known, emergency services responded swiftly to the scene.
“Rescue operations are ongoing, and we commend the bravery of our emergency responders who acted promptly,” Omotosho said.
The emergency personnel that responded comprised personnel of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Police Force.
The commissioner disclosed that investigation to unravel the cause of the incident had commenced and vowed that anyone found culpable would face the music.
