Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Chibuike Amaechi, an ex-Minister of Transportation, have left the party for the opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Similarly, Chibuike Amaechi, a former Governor of Rivers State, disclosed his departure from APC after the unveiling of the interim executive of the ADC in Abuja, saying life had become tough for Nigerians, necessitating the country’s need for a total overhaul.
Amaechi posited that Nigeria did not need a change of government but needed changing.
“Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. People can’t buy food. There’s no money to buy food. Everything is gone. Inflation is at its peak. And the Federal Government is busy going around trying to hijack the election. INEC is helping them to hijack the election,” he said.
“No, no, no. What must happen here is that we must start not just a party, but a movement, it must be a movement that brings in Nigerians to, on their own take over government, not us.”
He said he left the APC on Tuesday night but was surprised that the party did not expel him after warning them not to send invite him to meetings.
“I never attended one meeting. The last time they invited me, I warned them. I said, if you invite me to any meeting anymore… In fact, I was surprised that I wasn’t even expelled because I warned them in writing; don’t even invite me to any meeting. You can’t be in a club where majority of people are stealing and you don’t say anything.”
The departure of the duo from the ruling party is seen by many as a signal for realignment of political forces in the days ahead.
