Usaini Gumel, AIG, the Kano State Commissioner of police, has explained why the police chose to flout the directives of the state governor, Abba Yusuf to evict the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Yusuf had, through Haruna Dederi, the State Attorney General And Commissioner of Justice, directed the CP to evict Bayero, the deposed 15th Emir of Kano from his abode in the Nasarawa mini palace.
The directive followed a controversial ruling of the Federal High Court in Kano, nullifying the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi, as Emir of Kano but ruled the law behind the action as valid.
However, speaking on Friday, the police commissioner said obeying the governor’s directive would be premature since the state government had filed a case at the State High Court, which is slated for hearing on Monday, June 24, 2024.
He added that enforcing the governor’s directive would amount to ‘jumping the gun’ or pre-empting the court.
“The police will not evict Aminu Ado Bayero because the same government has filed a case at the State High Court on the eviction order, which would come up on Monday, 24th June 2024. So, if we carry out the order, it is like we are pre-empting the court because we don’t know what will happen there,” Gumel stated.
