Attorney Charles Onyirimba, the Senatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for Okigwe Zone (Imo North), has urged youths in the zone to remain hopeful and determined, assuring them of his commitment to championing opportunities that would enable them to build a brighter future.
Onyirimba made the call in a goodwill message to mark the 2026 International Youth Day, in which he described the youths as critical partners in the development and transformation of Okigwe Zone.
He said the energy, creativity, intelligence and determination of young people remained among the greatest assets available to the zone, urging them not to allow present economic and social challenges to define their future.
According to him, young people should not be regarded merely as “leaders of tomorrow,” but as active participants in shaping the society today.
Onyirimba expressed concern over the challenges confronting youths in the zone, including unemployment, inadequate opportunities, poor infrastructure and limited access to meaningful economic empowerment.
He argued that the situation must change, stressing that Okigwe Zone needed a development framework capable of creating opportunities for its young population rather than leaving them with no alternative but to migrate elsewhere in search of a better life.
The ADP candidate said his vision for the zone included greater attention to education, entrepreneurship, technology, skills acquisition, agriculture, creative enterprise and employment opportunities.
He pledged, if elected, to use his position to advocate policies and initiatives that would place youth development at the centre of representation and development planning.
“I believe that our young people deserve opportunities, not empty promises; skills, not dependency; and a voice, not tokenism,” Onyirimba said.
He encouraged youth to invest in their education and skills, remain resilient in the face of difficulties, and actively participate in the zone’s political and development processes.
The senatorial candidate maintained that the transformation of Okigwe Zone could not be achieved without the active involvement of its younger generation.
He therefore called on youths across the zone to “believe again, prepare themselves and refuse despair,” assuring them that their aspirations remained central to the future he seeks to help build.
Onyirimba wished the youths a meaningful International Youth Day and reiterated his commitment to working toward an Okigwe Zone where “a young person’s background does not determine their future.”
“The future belongs to you. Let us build it together,” he said.
