Attorney Charles Onyirimba, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) Senatorial Candidate for Okigwe Zone, has congratulated Governor Hope Uzodinma, following reports ranking Imo State among Nigeria’s top four richest states by Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
According to the report, Imo State recorded an estimated GDP of ₦7.68 trillion, placing it fourth in Nigeria behind only Lagos, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States, while ranking ahead of Delta, Anambra, Ondo, Ogun, Bayelsa and Niger States.
Describing the development as encouraging, Onyirimba said it reflects the growing economic potential of Imo State under Uzodinma and the gains of deliberate investments in agriculture, commerce, manufacturing and infrastructure.
“Every genuine achievement that projects Imo State positively deserves to be celebrated. This recognition should gladden the hearts of all Imo people, irrespective of political affiliation,” Onyirimba said.
“Governor Hope Uzodinma, and everyone, who has contributed to moving our dear state forward deserves commendation.”
He noted that economic growth is meaningful only when it translates into better roads, thriving industries, employment opportunities for young people, improved healthcare, quality education and greater prosperity for ordinary families.
“Our aspiration should not end with being counted among the richest states. The ultimate goal is to ensure that every community and every household feels the impact of that prosperity. That is the true measure of development, and I am happy that Governor Uzodinma is working towards that.”
The ADP senatorial candidate said the impressive ranking should inspire leaders across the state to work together in advancing policies that promote investment, entrepreneurship, security and inclusive economic growth.
“As leaders, we must build on this momentum rather than engage in needless division. Imo has enormous potential, and when government, the private sector and citizens work in harmony, our state can climb even higher in the national economic index.”
Onyirimba pledged that, if elected to represent Okigwe Zone in the Senate, he would pursue legislation and attract partnerships that strengthen agriculture, support small businesses, expand infrastructure and create opportunities for youths and women, thereby complementing the state’s development efforts.
He urged Imo people to remain united behind initiatives that promote sustainable growth, stressing that the progress of the state must always take precedence over partisan considerations.
“When a state rises, everyone rises with it. Our collective responsibility is to sustain the progress, deepen it and ensure that its benefits reach every corner of Imo State.”
Onyirimba further acknowledged Uzodinma’s leadership as he gradually rounds off his second and final tenure, describing the governor as a resilient and visionary leader whose administration has contributed significantly to strengthening Imo State’s economic profile.
He said history would judge every leader by the positive impact made on the lives of the people, expressing confidence that Governor Uzodinma’s contributions to the state’s development would remain part of that legacy.
The ADP senatorial candidate also wished the governor success in his quest to represent Imo West in the Senate after completing his tenure as governor.
“I sincerely wish Governor Hope Uzodinma the very best in his future political aspirations. Should the people entrust both of us with the privilege of serving in the Senate, I look forward to working with him and other distinguished senators in the Red Chamber to attract greater development to Imo State and advance the collective interests of our people. When leaders place the state above personal or partisan interests, everyone benefits,” Onyirimba stated.
He reiterated that healthy political competition should never diminish mutual respect among leaders, adding that collaboration in pursuit of the common good remains the hallmark of enduring statesmanship.
