Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a resounding re-election victory in the Ekiti State governorship election, recording a clean sweep across all 16 local government areas of the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Oyebanji winner in the early hours of Sunday after he polled 319,224 votes, far ahead of his closest challengers. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, garnered 40,533 votes, while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured 12,872 votes.
Announcing the results at the State Collation Centre in Ado-Ekiti, the Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, declared that Oyebanji had satisfied all constitutional requirements and was therefore duly returned elected.
The election featured 988,251 registered voters, with 384,940 accredited to vote. Of the 382,109 votes cast, 375,777 were declared valid.
The outcome underscored the APC’s dominance across the state, as the party won in every local government area, including Efon LGA, the home local government of PDP candidate Oluyede. In Efon, the APC polled 8,742 votes against the PDP’s 2,051.
The landslide victory further consolidates Oyebanji’s political standing and reflects widespread voter support for his administration across Ekiti State.
