The family of popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has confirmed his death following a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer, bringing an end to days of growing concern and speculation over his prolonged absence from the public eye.
In a statement released on Wednesday through the late actor’s official Instagram page, the family disclosed that the actor died at Evercare Hospital after complications arising from the illness.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, son, brother and friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement read.
According to the family, the actor battled the disease quietly, choosing to keep his health struggles away from public attention while holding on to faith and hope for recovery.
“Throughout this difficult journey, he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world,” the statement added.
The news has sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where Ekubo was regarded as one of Nollywood’s most charismatic and commercially successful actors. Tributes poured in from actors, filmmakers, producers and fans who described him as humble, supportive and deeply professional behind the scenes.
Ekubo rose to national prominence after emerging first runner-up in the 2010 Mr Nigeria competition, a breakthrough that opened the door to a flourishing acting career.
