Alex Ekubo, popular Nollywood star, has become the subject of widespread death rumours after viral social media posts claimed the actor died at the age of 40, throwing fans and the Nigerian entertainment industry into confusion and mourning.
The speculation erupted on Tuesday after fellow actor, Godwin Nnadiekwe, shared an emotional Instagram message that many interpreted as a confirmation of Ekubo’s death. In the now-viral post, Nnadiekwe expressed shock and grief, describing the alleged development as heartbreaking and unexpected.
“I’m struggling to find the words. This news has truly broken me. Nollywood has lost a rare soul, and I’m lost for words because this wasn’t the plan, Alex Ekubo,” Nnadiekwe wrote.
“To think you already prepared your will — it’s a heartbreak I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend.”
The emotional tribute quickly spread across social media platforms, with fans, celebrities, and Nollywood followers posting condolence messages and reacting to the unverified reports.
Searches related to “Alex Ekubo dead,” “Alex Ekubo death,” and “What happened to Alex Ekubo?” surged online as concern intensified.
Reports circulating online alleged that the actor died, following a battle with cancer and noted his prolonged absence from social media. Observers pointed out that Ekubo had maintained a low public profile in recent months, with his last known online activity reportedly dating back to late 2024.
However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from Nollywood authorities, the actor’s family, close associates, or management team regarding the claims surrounding his alleged death.
Until verified statements emerge, the reports remain unconfirmed.
Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Alex Ekubo built a strong reputation as one of Nollywood’s most recognisable actors, admired for his performances in romantic dramas, comedy films, and television productions. Before venturing into entertainment, he studied Law at the University of Calabar.
