The Progressive Governors Forum on Thursday moved decisively to silence mounting rumours of internal crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, passing a resounding vote of confidence on its chairman, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, and his deputy, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.
The dramatic reaffirmation came amid widespread speculation that Academia had allegedly been removed as chairman of the influential governors’ bloc during a closed-door meeting in Abuja, claims that triggered confusion across political circles and social media.
But in what appeared to be a direct response to the controversy, APC governors emerged from the meeting united, insisting there was no leadership crisis within the forum and declaring total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, who moved the motion endorsing Uzodimma’s leadership, said over 23 governors attended the meeting and unanimously reaffirmed confidence in the Imo governor.
He stressed that the mere fact that Uzodinma presided over the session alongside Uba Sani was enough proof that reports of his purported removal were false, misleading, and politically motivated.
The governors also used the occasion to caution sections of the media against disseminating unverified reports capable of creating unnecessary tension within the ruling party at a critical political moment.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Uzodinma dismissed the controversy as “fake news,” insisting that the forum remained focused on governance and the political future of the APC rather than distractions.
According to him, the APC governors are presently preoccupied with consolidating support for Tinubu’s reelection bid, following the recent submission of the president’s nomination forms by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Uzodinma declared that the governors had resolved to stand solidly behind Tinubu and work collectively to ensure his return to office in 2027.
He argued that although the administration’s economic reforms had come with difficult adjustments, the policies were already laying the groundwork for economic recovery, infrastructural renewal, and long-term national stability.
The Imo governor urged Nigerians to remain patient with the Tinubu administration and support what he described as bold and pragmatic reforms designed to reposition the country for sustainable growth.
The latest development is expected to temporarily calm speculations of cracks within the APC governors’ camp, especially as political alignments and succession calculations ahead of 2027 continue to intensify behind the scenes.
