Abomination: Man lands in police net for impregnating grand daughter in Niger

A 64-year-old man is now telling the Niger State Police Command all he knows about the pregnancy of his 16-year-old grand daughter.

The suspect, Musa Gado, who hails from Lufari village in Mariga Local Government Area of the State, allegedly sexually abused the minor, resulting in a pregnancy, a development that has left the community in shock.

The minor has already been delivered of a baby, four months ago.

Umulkhatum Mohammed, the Director-General of the Niger State Child Rights Agency (CRA), who  disclosed the development in an interview with journalists in Minna, the Niger State capital, stated the victim’s father, Lawali Na’ababa, and the village head, reported the case to the Agency on October 5, 2025 when the pregnancy was already six months gone.

According to her, the Agency immediately took steps to protect the minor, placing her under care to beat pressures to be abort the pregnancy until she was safely delivered of a baby boy in December 2025.Furthermore, Umulkhatum Mohammed claimed that a DNA test to determine paternity of the baby revealed a 99.99 percent chances that  the suspect is the biological father of the child.

“The result was presented to all parties involved, after which the suspect, who is still denying responsibility, was arrested and taken into custody by the State Criminal Investigation Department,” she said.

“He is currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.”

 Mohammed deplored the spike in child abuse cases in the state, and reiterated the Agency’s resolve to remain committed to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring justice was served.

Wasiu Abiodun, a superintendent of police, and spokesperson f the Niger State Police Command, confirmed the arrest. He added that the suspect would remain in custody while investigation is ongoing and would be charged to court thereafter.
