Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has said he would fly like any other citizen instead of wasting money on flying presidential jet.
He made this known in an interview with Dennin politics today, a programme on Channels television on Sunday evening.
He dismissed the motion it is necessary to fly presidential jet because insecurity or accident.
“I don’t need to buy a jet when primary health centres are not functioning. When I served as Anambra governor, I used Peugeot 406. The president should also be ready to die when people are dying or is there more security in the air?” he said.
Obi criticised a president Bola Tinubu’s handling of the killings in the land l, such as the killings in Benue and the flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State.
“People want to see a president with competence, character and compassion., which this government lacks. When people lose their children, the president should go on the first day and pay visit to the community,” Obi said.
“Niger State is just fifteen minutes drive from Abuja, yet the president is more interested in commissioning roads. Is commissioning roads more important than people dying? Is commissioning roads more important than school?
“There is no governance. The president preferred traveling to St Lucia of barely 180000 people in population. I would been in Mokwa where lives lives were lost than going to St Lucia. I would have even given children scholarships to the several out f school.”
Obi insisted he is still a member of the Labour despite joining the opposition coalition, adding that the move is not anti-party.
He also denied that any agreement had been reached for him to run as deputy for Atiku, adding that no such discussion has been held.
On the rising slate of insecurity in the country, Obi said as a president, he would declare war on whatever it is, blaming lack of will for the increasing challenge.
“There’s nothing you want to do that you can’t. I would not be commissioning roads; I would go to war go to war even if not personally. If it needs war, declare it,” he said.
Obi pointed out that he exactly that in Anambra and for years there were no incidents of armed robbery as it was prior to his coming to office.
He promised to support community policing, local government policing, state policing and national security.
