Police confirm several dead, 14 vehicles burnt in Abuja explosion… No blood to treat victims

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has confirmed that several people  died and 14 others injured in a devastating explosion near motor vehicle accident that occurred on Wednesday before Nyanya Bridge in the Nyanya area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

This was disclosed by Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, in a statement.

While eyewitnesses said more than 10 persons died, the police said six victims, who were pulled out of the burnt vehicles, were confirmed dead in the hospital.

Adeh revealed that a distress call on the incident was received on Wednesday evening by Karu Division.

“Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement and approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA, lost control and crashed into stationary vehicles trapped in traffic,” Adeh said.

“The impact engulfed fourteen vehicles in a raging inferno. Panic and chaos followed as bystanders and motorists scrambled for safety.“Emergency responders rushed to the scene, battling thick smoke and intense heat to rescue those trapped.

“Six victims were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital, but tragically, they were confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty. Their remains have been deposited at Karu General Hospital Morgue.

“Police operatives, in collaboration with fire service personnel, other security agencies, and courageous individuals at the scene, contained the inferno, and normal traffic flow has been restored.” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) has urged members of the public, especially FCT residents, to donate blood to support the victims.

According to the call by the Director General: “We urge all eligible donors to visit designated blood donation centers and hospitals across the FCT to make voluntary blood donations. Your generosity can make the difference between life and death for those in critical condition.
