Obi denies merger with PDP, NNPP ahead of 2027 elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general elections has denied agreeing to a merger deal with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on the state of the nation on Thursday, Obi stated that there was no such agreement between  him and other parties.

However, he urged a collaborative efforts by the politicians to defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2027, saying the party mismanaged the country’s resources.

Obi noted that the level of corruption and cost of governance Nigeria remained high, resulting  in a spike in public debt under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The former Anambra governor accused government officials of willfully mismanaging public funds in 2024 through incessant foreign travels.

He deplored the parlous state of security situation in the country and lamented that Nigerians are dying needlessly due to banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping-for-ransom.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, had also earlier rubbished the purported agreement with the Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of PDP, to share power by alternating terms
in an interview with the BBC.
