Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has offered to meet the bail conditions of human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi.
Farotimi, who is standing trial for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, SAN, was on granted N30 million bail by Ekiti Magistrate Court.
As part of the bail condition, Farotimi is to provide sureties (one shall be a house owner).
He was also expected to submit his passport and not to grant any media interview.
Tanko Yunusa, former spokesman of his presidential campaign organization, in 2023, disclosed Peter Obi‘s decision to meet Farotimi’s bail condition in a brief statement on his X handle.“I consulted His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement. As a respecter of rule of law, due process, and order he offered to take Dele Farontimi on the bail conditions,” the statement read.
“He thanked our courts and all concerned on this matter. His concern is that situation be resolved to the best interest of all concerned as well as our legal system.
“He extended his sincere appreciation to all concerned.”
