Operatives of the Akwa Ibom Police command has demolished the secretariat complex of the proscribed Ibom Youth Council.
The command’s spokespersonn, ASP Timfon John, on Thursday disclosed the development in a statement to newsmen in Uyo, the state capital.
According to her, Gov. Umo Eno, proscribed the Ibom Youth Council, following the illegal activities its members were involved in.
She revealed that acting on reliable intelligence, a joint security team stormed the group’s secretariat complex at Ikot Isighe in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, adding that there suspects were arrested while the secretariat complex was demolished in the process.
“Our findings reveal that the group has begun to procure arms, commenced military training, and has started causing security threats,” she said.
“Following the proscription of the group, we have a directive to immediately end the nefarious activities of its members.
“The plan of the group is to soon commence a full-scale disruption of law and order in the state.”

The Command’s spokesperson warned landlords in the state against renting their property to questionable groups or individuals, adding that properties used to perpetrate crime in the state would be demolished, and the owners treated as accomplices.
She also urged residents of the state to go about their lawful duties, saying that the police was committed to effective protection of lives and property.
John also stressed the need for vigilance by the residents and advised them to report suspicious movements within their neighborhoods to security agents.
