Nnamdi Kanu’s release imminent -Bianca Ojukwu

 Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has assured that President Bola Tinubu will release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from detention.

Speaking at the 13th memorial anniversary of her husband, the late Fim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the venerable Igbo leader, in Owerri the minister said she was certain that the president understands how important the release of Kanu,  who is facing terrorism charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is.

Since his repatriation to Nigeria from Kenya in 2021, Kanu has been in detention despite the court ordering his release.“President Tinubu understands the importance of Kanu’s release. It will expose the masqueraders behind the violence and help restore order. I will do whatever it takes to ensure His Excellency (Tinubu) grants this request,” Mrs Ojukwu said.

“The release of Nnamdi Kanu is paramount to separating genuine freedom fighters from criminals causing mayhem in the South-east. Our people face existential threats, and we must act to restore peace.”

She noted that the Igbo do not hurt one another but needed to be united in the fight to take back the region from criminal elements, making the area insecure.

“Communities are empty. Our illustrious sons and daughters have fled. Kidnappers now abduct their brothers for ransom. This is not what Dim Ojukwu fought for,” she bemoaned, and condemned the violent sit-at-home protests, which she said contradicted the ideals of Igbo people.“Ndigbo are enterprising and their brother’s keepers. We must reclaim our land and continue to propagate the ideals for which Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu stood,” she stated.
