Mr Ewaoche Benjamin Obe, a former Benue State governorship candidate on the platform of the African Action Congress, AAC, has been evicted from his Abuja house after his wife allegedly used the property as collateral for a loan she defaulted in repaying.

The couple, who hail from Ogbadibo Local Government Area LGA of Benue State, had been married since 2006.

Obe and his wife, Christiana, had lived together  in the house said to have been built by the man at the Sagwari Layout of Dutse, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

However, while traveling to Benue State, Obe received a call that some security operatives had invaded his Abuja house to evict him.

He quickly reversed along the Keffi road in Nasarawa State and was handed a court document on getting to his house, stating that the same house had been confiscated over an unpaid loan taken by his wife.

Obe said he was never issued any court notice prior to the day of his eviction by the security operatives, including military men in uniform and police officers, who littered Obe’s property on the street.

According to him: “She (his wife) has done her worst. This is a house I built with my hard-earned money.”

Also in a post on Facebook live, the politician alleged that his wife stormed his house with the aid of some security officers, and wondered why a court could confiscate a property without prior notices.

He also said he had no knowledge of any loan and was not also not contacted prior to the alleged loan nor was he served any court papers.

“I was never served. This was plotted by my wife and the officers that came. We have been having issues for a while and I think this is her best way of getting at me,” he said.

According to Obe, his wife, an officer of the Nigerian Air Force, took his son away to an unknown place before the incident.

She had also removed some of her belongings from the house and left without any interference from her husband, who said he did not want to create a scene.

According to the court papers obi  was said to have been a tenant in the duplex building.

“Ewaoche (Obe) has invested a lot in this woman, even the job she currently has came from him. He saw this woman through school and has invested in her life in so many other ways. How do you connive with external persons to bring down a man you have lived with for more than two decades? How?” a family member wondered.

“From the look of things, it is clear this is a clear case of oppression. Assuming this happened to a woman, we will say it is because “na woman. This is a direct opposite. How can a wife take out a loan without informing the husband? Why did the lender not call to get details from the property owner? Who values a house without a man who owns it? Something is seriously missing in all these.

“We gathered that the court papers are all fake and the people commissioned to carry out the eviction were mobilized illegally. We want the Air Force and the police to investigate the officers in the video.”
