Shehu Sani, the former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has taken exception to comments by Ayo Fayose, former Ekiti State governor, which he considered contemptuous of the North.

Fayose, in an interview on a Channels Television programme on Monday night, blamed the Federal Government’s failure to develop on northerners, who were marrying multiple wives and indiscriminately having many children they cannot cater for.

Consequently, Fayose explained, this has constituted a huge problem for Nigeria and a burden on the government.

“The reason it is difficult for Tinubu to develop Nigeria is because northerners are giving birth to children they can’t cater for,” Fayose said.

However, reacting in a post on his official X handle, Sani said Fayose’s comment was distasteful.

He advised the former governor to withdraw the story and apologise to northerners.

“Even though Fayose spoke as an individual, his reported statement on Northerners is contemptuous and unconscionable,” Sani noted.

“I suggest he should humbly withdraw it and tender an apology as a statesman.”
