The body of a robber has been fished out a well into which he had fallen after his gang raided a students’ hostel and robbed the residents.
Regina, a student residing in the hostel at the Unicross Okuku campus, recounted the terrifying experience during which the attackers stabbed one student and struck another on the head with a stick, leaving them injured.
The robbers escaped thereafter with valuables, including phones, laptops, and money.
However, unknown to the victims, one of the robbers accidentally fell into a well during the chaos. It was not until dawn, when students went to fetch water, that they discovered the robber’s lifeless body.
They raised an alarm, and the community responded by retrieving the body from the well.
The deceased was later identified as Bob Jay, allegedly a resident of Mbube, a neighboring village.
According to Vanguard News on Sunday, Regina recounted: “There were many that came around midnight. They robbed all the students in the Okuku hostel. They stabbed one student and broke the head of another with a stick before escaping with phones, laptops, and other valuables.
“Nobody knew that one of the robbers fell into the well until dawn, when students went to fetch water and saw the man inside dead. They raised alarm, and the community people came and took him out. He was identified as one of the robbers, and some people said his name is Bob Jay from Mbube, a neighboring village.”
Regina also mentioned that the police were promptly notified and arrived at the scene to retrieve the body. However, she explained that no other gang member has been identified, as the phone found on the dead robber was damaged and the screen was blurry, making it difficult to retrieve any useful information.
