Residents of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enough State have been thrown into fear and disbelief, following the alleged gruesome killing of a woman and her son by a male relative in the Ekwegbe community of Enugu State.
The disturbing incident, which reportedly occurred on Friday, has sparked outrage across social media and renewed concerns over rising violent crimes, mental health challenges, and the growing influence of substance abuse in parts of Nigeria.
The development was made public on Saturday by a social media influencer, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, in a Facebook post that has since generated widespread reactions online.
According to the post, “A man identified as Nwa Jonah from Ekwegbe in Igbo-Etiti LGA allegedly beheaded his sister and nephew yesterday,” the post stated.
The motive behind the shocking act remains unclear as residents struggle to come to terms with the tragedy.
In a related development, another horrifying incident was also reportedly recorded in Ukehe community within the same local government area, where a man allegedly killed his own mother.
According to the social media report, the suspect was believed to have been under the influence of hard drugs at the time of the incident, although security authorities have yet to officially verify the claim.
The twin incidents have triggered intense public concern, with many residents calling for urgent intervention by security agencies, community leaders, and mental health experts to address the growing wave of violent behaviour linked to drug abuse and social instability.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not released any official statement regarding the killings, while details surrounding the circumstances of both incidents remain sketchy.
Community members are now urging authorities to carry out thorough investigations and ensure that justice is served.
