As Imo State marks 50 years since its creation, Attorney Charles Chibuike Onyirimba (ÓÑWA) has described the Golden Jubilee as a defining moment to recommit the state to unity, justice, and people-driven development.
In a goodwill message to Governor Hope Uzodimma and the people of the state, Onyirimba said the anniversary goes beyond celebration, noting that it presents an opportunity for sober reflection and a renewed vision for the future.
“Imo at fifty is not merely about how long we have existed, but about how well we have stewarded our collective destiny and how boldly we are prepared to shape the years ahead,” he stated.
According to Onyirimba, Imo State has, over the decades, established itself as a centre of intellect, enterprise, and resilience, producing men and women who have excelled across governance, education, commerce, law, medicine, engineering, and the creative industries both within and outside Nigeria.
He paid tribute to the founding fathers, past leaders, and citizens whose sacrifices laid the foundation of the state, while also remembering those who paid the ultimate price in the pursuit of peace, unity, and progress.
Onyirimba also extended special commendation to the people of Okigwe Zone, describing the zone as a moral and cultural pillar within Imo State.
“Okigwe Zone has consistently demonstrated integrity, political consciousness, and a commitment to fairness. These values must remain central as Imo State seeks balanced development and inclusive governance,” he said.
Looking ahead, Onyirimba stressed that the next phase of Imo’s journey must be anchored on purposeful leadership, accountability, security, and equity, adding that governance must be deliberately structured around the welfare and dignity of the people.
“At fifty, Imo State stands at a crossroads. The choices we make now will determine whether the next chapter delivers renewed hope, economic opportunity, and lasting stability for every Imo citizen, regardless of zone or background,” he added.
He congratulated Governor Uzodimma, past Governors of the state, members of the National Assembly and House of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen, the Judiciary, Civil Service, traditional rulers, clergy, educators, artisans, market men and women, and all stakeholders who have contributed to the growth of Imo State.
Onyirimba concluded by expressing optimism that the Golden Jubilee would mark the beginning of a transformative era for the state.
“Imo State must emerge from this milestone more united, more just, and more determined to place the people first,” the United States-trained attorney, who is being prodded by constituents to join the race for the Okigwe Senatorial seat next year, said.
