The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects in connection with an alleged large-scale cyber intrusion targeting a major telecommunication company in the country.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects are accused of unlawfully breaching the core operating systems of the telecom firm.

Hundeyin revealed that the cyberattack enabled the suspects to divert airtime and mobile data valued at approximately ₦7.7 billion, causing significant financial losses to the company.

The police spokesperson noted that the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations into suspicious network activities and revenue leakages within the telecom operator’s system.

Further details on the identities of the suspects, the methods used in the breach, and possible accomplices are expected to be released by the police as investigations continue.
