Tears flow as gunmen kill people 19 in Anambra

Gunmen on Monday evening reportedly invaded a meeting venue in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State and shot dead 19 people.

The hoodlums had arrived arrived the venue where some indigenes of Ebonyi State were holding a meeting and opened fire on them.

A grisly footage of the incident seen online showed a chaotic scene strewn with several corpses on the ground while people wailed.

The motive of the killing remains unclear as people speculated that since it happened on a Monday, it could be related the the enforcement of the sit at home protest in the South-east.

However, others suspect it could be as a result of internal wrangling among the group because the hoodlums had demanded for minutes of the meeting.

Confirming the attack, the Anambra State Police Command disclosed that 10 persons were killed, while nine others sustained injuries.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, condemned the shooting in a statement and vowed that the command would pursue the culprits until they are arrested and brought to justice.

“The armed criminals came in two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and attacked the gathering of a group unprovoked, shooting sporadically,” the statement read.

“The victims were rushed to the Hospital and regrettably, 10 (ten) people were confirmed dead. The bodies have been deposited in the morgue.”

Ikenga added that the Police had taken over the crime scene and are working on round the clock to apprehend the attackers.
