El-Rufai hosts Kwankwaso in Abuja days after meeting Buhari

Former governor of Kaduna State Mallam Nasir El-Rufai on Thursday hosted Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) Presidential Candidate, Senator, in Abuja, a few days after visiting former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

El-Rufai was in the verge of bagging a ministerial appointment with the President Bola Tinubu administration but was turned down by the Senate at the last minute due to ‘security clearance’.

The former governor, who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has been relating with opposition figures lately, sparking speculations that he could plotting an alignment with opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He had visited the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Abuja last March.

Also, he had criticised the APC-led government, claiming that contrary to touted policy, the  administration was spending more money on petrol subsidy than the previous governments.
Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Senator,  in the 8th National Assembly, had posited that activities of some prominent northern politicians and visits to Buhari were part of a plot to dislodge Tinubu from power in 2027.
