Police foil kidnap attempt, rescue victims in Katsina

An attempt by bandits to kidnap some residents of Katsina State on Wednesday was foiled by operatives of the state police command.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson of the command announced the development in a statement, adding that no fewer than 10 kidnapped victims were also rescued.
Sadiq recounted how some suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons and shooting sporadically, attacked a commercial vehicle at Kwanar Makera along the Katsina to Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, Katsina State, on December 24th, 2024, at about 2030 hrs while attempting to kidnap 10 occupants of the said vehicle.

According to Sadiq, four of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds as a result of the bandits’ attack but were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

However, he further revealed that two of the victims died while receiving treatment.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Jibia swiftly responded to the distress call and led a team of operatives to the scene where they engaged, the bandits in a gun duel.

The kidnap attempt was successfully foiled while all the 10 victims were rescued.

CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, the state Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command lauded the gallantry of his men and urged then not to recent.

Musa also urged members of the public to provide the security operatives with useful information as regards suspected criminal activities in their areas.
