Baltasar Engonga, the former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, has been remanded in Malabo’s Black Beach Prison.
Engonga was arrested some days for allegedly recording his sex romp with over 400 women, many of whom are wives of prominent figures in the Central African nation.
The matter came to light during a search at Engonga’s home and office following a fraud investigation into the activities of the 54-year-old economist.
Several videos showing Engonga’s explicit sexual encounters with different married women were reportedly discovered during the search.
The footage leaked online and stirred a media uproar, resulting in his dismissal by President, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

“According to Decree No. 118/2024, dated 4th November, the dismissal was due to “irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct for the performance of public duties.”Engonga was on Friday shown in a viral video handcuffed on both hands and legs during a court appearance.

A French online blog, Afrikmatin, reported that Engonga, was subsequently chained and transferred to Malabo Central Prison and faces charges of corruption and embezzlement.

Another online newspaper UGStandard, also reported that the sex tapes began circulating on social media while Engonga was already held at Malabo’s notorious Black Beach Prison on charges of embezzling public funds, as reported by state television, TVGE.

In a fact-checking report published Wednesday, Dubawa verified that Engonga had indeed been taken into custody on corruption charges and is currently being held in Black Beach Prison.
