A storey has collapsed at Jegede, Olunloyo, Ona Ara Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, leaving devastation in it’s wake.
The owner of the building, Pa Bibire Lamidi, lost five of his children and grandchildren in the incident and is currently hospitalised.
Several occupants also suffered critical injuries and also struggling for their lives in the hospital.
Alhaja Yidiatu Lamidi, one of Pa Lamidi’s wives, told reporters: “I was not there when the incident occurred. My husband told me that he had just finished toileting when he suddenly saw the house collapsing.
“His children and grandchildren were among the victims. My husband treats the mentally ill and other patients. Five of his children and grandchildren died in the incident. Some of his mentally ill patients also lost their lives.”
Alhaja Yidiatu Lamidi also said the building did not show any sign of distress before the collapse.
According to the Oyo Police Command, survivors of the tragic incident confirmed that survivors suffered varying degrees of life-threatening injuries and being treated in hospital.
Recall that no fewer than 10 persons died after a building collapsed.
The Oyo State Fire Service Agency had in a statement confirmed the casualties, adding that seven persons were rescued from the rubble.
“The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at around 2 am this morning at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan, of which 10 persons have been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while seven persons were rescued alive,” the statement read.
