This is not the best time for popular social media critic, Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, as the Lagos State High Court has ordered him
to pay senior lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, and his son, Folarin, aka Falz, the sum of N500 million for defaming them.
Verydarkman was also ordered to remove the defamatory comments concerning the human rights lawyer and his popular musician son from the Social Media.
Delivering judgement on the suit, marked no: ID/8584/GCM/2024 on Tuesday, Justice M. O. Idowu ruled that the publications made by VeryDarkMan on his social media accounts on September 24, 2024, which linked crossdresser, Bobrisky, to Falz and his father defamed the duo and injured their reputation.
“According to the applicants (Falz and Falana), the defendant (VeryDarkMan) knew these statements (Bobrisky’s claims) were false and untrue but proceeded to publish them to injure their reputation,” the judge held.
“Furthermore, the defamatory statements are still trending on the defendant (VeryDarkMan)’s several online platforms and the injury to their reputation continues as long as the publication remains online.”
Falana had dragged Verydarkman to court over his postings on his social media blog where he alleged that he, alongside his son, Falz, collected N10 million from Bobrisky to enable him get the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to drop drop a case of money laundering against him.
However, the senior advocate said he had never met Bobrisky in his life.
