Edo guber: APC leading PDP  as INEC releases results from 13 out of 18 LGAs [Full details]

The opposition All Progressives Congress, APC,  in Edo State is in the lead from the results of Saturday’s governorship election in the state so far released.

Out of the 18 local government areas declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, APC has won in 13, having polled about 180,369 votes, to beat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which is trailing behind in the second position with 160,333 votes.

The Labour Party, LP, is coming a distant third, after garnering. 10,247 votes.

The INEC is yet to announce results from the remaining five more local government areas as the coalition results are still ongoing. 

The Edo gubernatorial election was relatively peaceful but seen as a straight fight between the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.

There were acrimonious and unsavoury exchanges between the two parties in the lead up to the election, leading to the description of the exercise as a ‘do or die’ affair by Governor Godwin Obaseki, who complained of underhand dealings by the APC.

In one of such encounters, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, now an APC senator, mocked Obaseki for being childless.

However, Obaseki’s wife responded to the tasteless comments by explaining that she was not barren but had had miscarriages.
