The Nigerian troops have killed scores of terrorists in Bassa village, Shiroro Local Government Ares of Niger State.

The terrorists met their end during a confrontation that is part of efforts to secure vulnerable communities in the state facing threats from armed terrorists.

Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad Basin counterterrorism and insurgency expert, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Sunday.

The troops foiled an attack on the community, resulting in the decimation of several insurgents.

He added that the footage from the operation showed bodies of the terrorists killed in the attack.

According to Makama, sources informed him that military authorities, who are presently monitoring the area to forestall any likely counter-attack and ensure the safety of residents will soon provide further details on the development.

Niger State has witnessed recurrent attacks by terrorists, who even control some areas in the state.

During the attack, terrorists invaded the community at daybreak.

It was gathered that security operatives went after them and eventually killed 19 of them.

The terrorists had reportedly stormed the community earlier but they were repelled, only to return but the Nigerian Air Force also launched a series of airstrikes against the terrorists, killing 28 of them.

The Air Force in a statement disclosed that about 100 terrorists were involved.

“After confirming the positions of friendly troops, the NAF conducted precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ positions,” the statement said.

“The strikes were devastating, neutralising dozens of terrorists in successive passes.

“As of the time of reporting, 28 bodies had been recovered from the target area, with several more terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared.

“Nigerians can be assured that NAF will continue to conduct air operations, both independently and in collaboration with surface forces. This is to eliminate all threats to the peace, prosperity and security of our great nation.”

Nigeria’s fight against insurgency seems unabating. However, security operatives have been recording some success of late. Only recently, Kachalla Buzu, who was the boss of Zamfara terror kingpin, Bello Turji, was killed alongside 39 of his henchmen in an ambush Organised by Nigerian troops.
