Women in Obowo Local Government Area have expressed support for Attorney Charles Onyirimba, the ADP flag bearer for the 2027 Okigwe Zone senatorial election, as his Campaign Council intensifies grassroots consultations across the zone.
The women, who turned out in large numbers for the engagement, voiced confidence in Onyirimba’s capacity to champion the development aspirations of Okigwe Zone, citing the urgent need for better infrastructure, job creation, youth empowerment and economic revitalisation.
Addressing the gathering, the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Mrs Favour Nwelue, challenged the women to translate their political choices into a commitment to a better future by rejecting vote-buying and protecting their electoral mandate.
“Be builders, not wreckers. When you sell your vote, you sell your children’s future and mortgage their opportunities. Your vote must be an investment in the next generation,” she declared.
Nwelue questioned the persistent development gap between Okigwe and other parts of Imo State, asking why graduates should remain trapped in economic hardship, riding Okada and Keke, when their education and skills could contribute meaningfully to the growth of their communities.
“If Orlu and Owerri can point to their development, where does Okigwe stand? This is the time to correct the imbalance and reclaim our rightful place in Imo State,” she said.
She highlighted deplorable roads, inadequate water supply, unreliable electricity and limited industrial activity as major impediments to progress, noting that these challenges undermine businesses, frustrate commuters and diminish economic opportunities.

According to her, Okigwe needs a senator who understands that representation must extend beyond occupying a seat in Abuja to purposeful legislative engagement, effective advocacy, attracting investment and pursuing development projects that improve people’s lives.
She described Onyirimba’s aspiration as an opportunity to advance a new approach to representation; one focused on job-creating industries, support for small businesses, youth empowerment and opportunities for skilled men and women to earn decent livelihoods.
Invoking the legacy of the late Chief Sam Mbakwe, former governor of the old Imo State, Nwelue called for a return to purposeful leadership measured by tangible results rather than political titles or appearances.
She maintained that the real dividends of representation should be evident in better roads, improved public utilities, thriving businesses, employment opportunities and a brighter future for the next generation.
The Obowo meeting is part of the Campaign Council’s ongoing consultations across the six local government areas of Okigwe Zone, engaging women, youths, community leaders and other stakeholders on the region’s development priorities.
As the 2027 senatorial contest gathers momentum, Onyirimba’s campaign is placing development, accountability and effective representation at the centre of its message. The Obowo engagement reinforces the call for a senatorial mandate that responds to the people’s needs and advances a more prosperous future for Okigwe Zone.
