A dramatic political twist unfolded within Nigeria\u2019s ruling party on Thursday night as Hope Uzodimma was reportedly removed as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, following an emergency meeting of governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The development came barely hours after the Imo State governor publicly represented APC governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu\u2019s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 election cycle.<\/p>\n
According to reports monitored from Abuja, the decision to relieve Uzodimma of the influential position was reached during an extraordinary late-night meeting attended by nearly 20 governors elected on the platform of the APC and allied progressive blocs. The gathering reportedly drew governors and senior political figures from several states, including Ogun, Bayelsa, Enugu and others, amid growing internal consultations within the ruling party.<\/p>\n
The sudden leadership shake-up has triggered fresh speculation over emerging power realignments inside the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. Uzodimma, who has been one of President Tinubu\u2019s vocal allies within the governors\u2019 bloc, rose to national prominence through his active role in APC mobilization and intra-party negotiations. His position as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum placed him at the center of key policy coordination and political strategy among governors elected on the party\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n
The Progressive Governors Forum has over the years evolved into one of the most powerful caucuses within the APC, often shaping consensus positions on national issues, electoral strategy, leadership contests and federal-state relations.
