As Nigeria edges closer to the 2027 general elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has struck a defiant tone, pushing back against mounting criticism from opposition leaders and civil society groups over the state of the economy and governance reforms.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a strategic meeting with coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a grassroots mobilisation network established to promote his administration\u2019s policies, Tinubu declared that no amount of political pressure or intimidation would derail his reform agenda or weaken his resolve to lead.<\/p>\n
The meeting, attended by top figures within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including Vice President Kashim Shettima and several governors, comes at a time of heightened political tension.<\/p>\n
Opposition heavyweights have intensified their attacks, accusing the administration of deepening hardship across the country through policies they describe as poorly implemented and insensitive to citizens\u2019 realities.<\/p>\n
Positioning himself as battle-tested and unyielding, Tinubu reminded his audience of the turbulent journey that brought him to power, from party primaries to the general election, stressing that adversity was not new to him. He pledged to stay the course, insisting that his government\u2019s economic and structural reforms, though painful, are necessary steps toward long-term national stability and growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will not abandon this mission,\u201d the President asserted, reinforcing his commitment to what he described as a generational responsibility to reset Nigeria\u2019s trajectory. He urged supporters to remain steadfast, framing the Renewed Hope project as a collective struggle to rebuild the nation and secure a more prosperous future.<\/p>\n
Tinubu\u2019s remarks come in direct response to recent criticisms from prominent opposition figures. Former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), recently described the administration\u2019s \u201cRenewed Hope Agenda\u201d as deceptive, even calling for the President\u2019s resignation. Similarly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other political leaders have openly questioned Tinubu\u2019s ability to alleviate economic hardship, citing rising inflation, insecurity, and declining living standards.<\/p>\n
In a pointed rebuttal, Tinubu challenged his critics to account for their own records while in power, accusing them of failed policies and unfulfilled promises. He referenced past privatisation efforts, particularly in the steel sector, as examples of decisions that have yet to deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.<\/p>\n
The President also addressed concerns about continuity and accountability, controversially framing his succession from former President Muhammadu Buhari as a seamless transition within a shared political vision. According to him, the current administration is not a departure but a continuation, one that seeks to correct inherited shortcomings while sustaining foundational policies.<\/p>\n
Beyond politics, Tinubu used the platform to call for respect for democratic institutions, particularly the judiciary. He warned against undermining court decisions and emphasised the importance of upholding the rule of law as Nigeria navigates its complex political landscape.<\/p>\n
Analysts view the President\u2019s latest comments as an early signal of the high-stakes battle shaping up ahead of 2027. With opposition alliances gradually coalescing and public frustration over economic conditions growing, the political environment is expected to become increasingly charged.<\/p>\n
