In a political climate often saturated with titles, ambitions, and the relentless pursuit of office, a different kind of message echoed through a recent gathering in Okigwe Zone, one that sought to separate the substance of leadership from the mere symbolism of political power.<\/p>\n
At a strategic meeting of key figures within the Transformation Agenda movement, convened to sensitise stakeholders ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, a frontrunner aspirant, Attorney Charles Onyirimba, delivered a thought-provoking address that challenged conventional assumptions about leadership and public service.<\/p>\n
He began with a striking assertion: “Holding office does not automatically confer leadership. “In his words, one could occupy the exalted seat of a Senator or governorship and yet fall short of true leadership.<\/p>\n
For Onyirimba, leadership transcends titles; it is neither conferred by electoral victory nor guaranteed by academic pedigree. Rather, it is an intrinsic force, born from within, rooted in character, conviction, and a genuine commitment to others.<\/p>\n
Describing leadership as something \u201cfrom the soul,\u201d he emphasised the willingness to give of oneself as its defining hallmark. It is not about prominence or privilege, but about purpose. Not about recognition, but responsibility. Leadership, he argued, is ultimately an act of service: selfless, sacrificial, and unwavering.<\/p>\n
“There is a difference between leadership and political appointment or political office. You can be a senator, yet you are not a leader; you can be a governor, yet you’re not a leader; you can be uneducated and be a powerful leader.\u00a0 Leadership is the act of serving others selflessly.\u00a0 Serve others without seeking a reward; selfless service is leadership,” he said.<\/p>\n
In a line that resonated deeply with his the rousing crowd of local government coordinators of the Transformation Agenda, drawn from all the six council areas that constitute Okigwe Zone, Onyirimba framed service as a reciprocal force: when one invests energy into the well-being of others, one inevitably uplifts oneself. It is a philosophy that redefines success, not as personal accumulation, but as collective advancement.<\/p>\n
“When you give from your tight energy to the well-being of others; when you serve others\u00a0 you also serve yourself.\u00a0 When you lift another, you are also lifting yourself.\u00a0 The duty of lifting,\u00a0 the duty of serving,\u00a0 is the prime responsibility that\u00a0 Okigwe zone needs,” the Senatorial hopeful stated.<\/p>\n
Turning his focus to Okigwe Zone, he spoke with a mix of urgency and hope. Despite being the smallest zone in the state, he insisted that Okigwe’s strength lies not in size but in the quality of its people. What the zone needs, he said, are men and women of disciplined minds, individuals ready to rise above self-interest and commit to the shared progress of the community.<\/p>\n
His message was both a challenge and a call to action: the future of Okigwe cannot be built on political convenience or transactional loyalty, but on a culture of service, sacrifice, and genuine leadership.<\/p>\n
As the 2027 race gradually takes shape, Onyirimba\u2019s remarks may well signal the emergence of a narrative that seeks to redefine the criteria for representation in Okigwe Zone. Whether this message will translate into political momentum and galvanise the zone to rise above its traditional crumb-picking remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear: in a field often dominated by the quest for power, Onyirimba is attempting to re-centre the conversation on purpose.<\/p>\n
And in doing so, he leaves the people to ask those desiring to represent the zone with a fundamental question: are they merely seeking office, or are they ready to embrace true leaders?<\/p>\n
