By Publisher<\/span><\/p>\n Kindly share<\/span><\/p>\n Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Kano State governor and the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in the 2023 general elections, has explained why Governor Abba\u00a0 Yusuf reinstated Muhammad Sanusi, as Emir of Kano.<\/span><\/p>\n According to Kwankwaso, it was a fulfillment of Yusuf’s campaign promise to the people of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking when he appeared on Arise News Prime Time, Kwankwaso disclosed that Sanusi’s reinstatement followed Governor Yusuf\u2019s consultation with relevant stakeholders.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was a campaign issue. Don\u2019t forget that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was installed in 2014 by our government,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMy deputy who became governor decided in his wisdom to divide Kano into five emirates. What many people don\u2019t remember is that it was tried by the Rimi government during the Second Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was our position, our belief that Kano should continue as one solid traditional institution. That was what we believed in.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSo, during our campaign, the governor went round to tell the people that if they voted for him, Kano would return to being one solid traditional institution, of course with support from the other emirates.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThat is why when he was sworn-in, he started a process of consultation.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBut for one year, the governor carried out due consultations and decided to follow due process through the State House of Assembly and Sanusi was reinstated. People voted for him for several reasons, including making Kano one strong emirate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Recall that the Kano State Emirate Council was split into five by former governor, Abdulahi Ganduje, who is now the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, when he created four new Emirates in 2019, dethroning Sanusi.<\/span><\/p>\n However, the state government abrogated the 2019, thereby abolishing the four new Emirates and sacking their emirs.
