A fresh wave of political recalibration has swept through Imo State, following the resignation of former Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a possible shift ahead of future political contests.<\/p>\n
Madumere, a prominent figure in Imo\u2019s political landscape, formally announced his exit in a letter dated March 17, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Ezinihitte Ward, Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area. The letter was acknowledged the same day, bringing an official end to his long-standing association with the party.<\/p>\n
Madumere rose to prominence as a key ally of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha. He became deputy governor in 2013, following the controversial removal of Jude Agbaso and went on to serve throughout Okorocha\u2019s second term, which ended in May 2019.<\/p>\n
During his time in office, Madumere was widely regarded as a loyal lieutenant within Okorocha\u2019s political structure, playing a visible role in the administration\u2019s governance and political strategy. However, like many political alliances in Nigeria, that relationship eventually frayed, leaving him navigating a more uncertain path in the years that followed.<\/p>\n
In his resignation letter, Madumere described the decision as difficult but necessary, citing deep reflection on his political journey within the APC.<\/p>\n
\u201cI write to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the APC effective immediately.<\/p>\n
“The decision, though difficult, has become necessary after a deep personal reflection\u2026 I sincerely feel it is time for me to explore new paths.\u201d<\/p>\n
His tone, while measured, suggests more than a routine departure; it hints at a strategic repositioning rather than a retirement from politics.<\/p>\n
Despite his resignation, Madumere struck a conciliatory tone, expressing gratitude for the relationships he built within the party and emphasizing unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is my utmost desire\u2026 that we continue to maintain the cordial relationship we have built over the years, in our collective desire to build a better Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n
This diplomatic exit may preserve alliances that could prove useful in whatever political direction he chooses next.<\/p>\n
As of now, Madumere has not publicly declared his next political destination, leaving room for speculation. In Nigeria\u2019s fluid political environment, such moves often precede defections to rival parties, coalition-building, or renewed ambitions on the electoral stage.<\/p>\n
His departure adds to the evolving political dynamics in Imo State, where shifting loyalties and strategic alignments continue to shape the road to future elections.<\/p>\n
