Women from Okigwe have long played a defining role in the social, cultural, and economic life of their communities, a reality that continues to underscore their enduring relevance in the development of the region.<\/p>\n
In an interview reflecting on the contributions of women from the area, Attorney Charles Onyirimba, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, said the strength of Okigwe society cannot be discussed without acknowledging the influence and sacrifices of its women.<\/p>\n
According to him, the women of Okigwe have historically served as pillars of stability within families while also contributing significantly to economic activities and community progress.<\/p>\n
\u201cOkigwe women have always been a powerful force in our society,\u201d Onyirimba said. \u201cThey are the backbone of the family system and the quiet drivers of many forms of development within the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
He explained that beyond their traditional roles in the home, women from the zone have consistently demonstrated resilience, industry, and leadership in areas, such as agriculture, commerce, education, and community organisation.<\/p>\n
Their ability to combine family responsibilities with economic enterprise, he noted, has helped sustain households and provide opportunities for younger generations.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany homes have survived difficult times because of the strength and determination of women,\u201d he said. \u201cThey work tirelessly to ensure that their children receive education, that families remain united, and that cultural values are preserved.\u201d<\/p>\n
Onyirimba added that Okigwe women have also historically played a crucial role in maintaining communal harmony and social order.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn many communities, women are the voices of wisdom and balance. They help resolve conflicts, encourage cooperation, and maintain the moral fabric that holds society together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He further observed that the tradition of solidarity among Okigwe women has been an important factor in their impact, pointing to cooperative efforts, support networks, and collective initiatives that have helped individuals and families overcome challenges.<\/p>\n
Commenting on this year’s International Women’s Day, tagged:\u00a0\u201cGive and Gain\u201d<\/strong>, Onyirimba described the theme as a reflection of a long-standing cultural philosophy that has guided generations of women in the area.<\/p>\n According to the legal luminary, the idea of \u201cgive and gain\u201d captures the spirit of generosity and mutual upliftment that has defined the women of Okigwe for decades.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen women give support, wisdom, encouragement, and resources to one another, the entire community benefits. In the end, the gains return in the form of stronger families, empowered younger generations, and a more united society,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n He noted that the celebration provides an opportunity not only to mark the achievements of Okigwe women but also to renew their commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and shared progress.<\/p>\n Onyirimba stressed that the contributions of women extend far beyond visible achievements often celebrated in public life.<\/p>\n \u201cWomen are the first teachers in every home. They shape the character of children long before society begins to influence them. Through their guidance, values, such as respect, discipline, and responsibility are transmitted from one generation to the next,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Onyirimba also encouraged younger women from the area to build on the legacy of their predecessors by embracing education, leadership, and entrepreneurship while maintaining the cultural virtues of dignity, determination, and communal responsibility.<\/p>\n \u201cThe future of any society depends greatly on how it empowers and supports its women,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen women are encouraged and respected, families become stronger and communities flourish.\u201d<\/p>\n For Onyirimba, that the women is not merely historical but an ongoing reality.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThe story of Okigwe cannot be told without its women,\u201d he noted. \u201cTheir strength, sacrifice, and commitment to family and community remain part of the foundation upon which the future will continue to be built.\u201d<\/p>\n Onyirimba, widely regarded as one of the most sought-after political voices in Okigwe Zone ahead of the next senatorial election, has advised women across the district to make a wise and conscientious choice when the time comes to cast their votes.<\/p>\n The respected US-trained attorney, who has been heavily wooed by various political interests and community stakeholders to join the senatorial race, urged women to look beyond sentiments, inducements, spurious or temporary promises and instead support a candidate with proven integrity, competence, and a genuine commitment to the development of the zone.<\/p>\n According to him, women constitute a powerful voting bloc whose decisions can significantly shape the political future of the district.
