In a performance that has stunned many observers of Nigerian politics, presidential spokesman, Daniel Bwala, disowned several of his own past statements about Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a tense appearance on Head to Head, the flagship interview programme hosted by Mehdi Hasan on Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n
Bwala, who now serves as Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, repeatedly denied making critical claims about the Nigerian leader that he had publicly aired during the\u00a0 2023 election season when he served as a prominent spokesman for the presidential campaign of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.<\/p>\n
The episode, themed \u201cNigeria: Renewed Hope or Hopelessness?\u201d, examined the performance of the Tinubu administration under the banner of the government\u2019s signature \u201cRenewed Hope\u201d agenda. What unfolded during the interview, however, was less a defence of policy and more a dramatic confrontation with political memory.<\/p>\n
Hasan, known for his forensic interview style, confronted Bwala with video clips and previously published statements from the heated campaign season leading to the 2023 Nigerian presidential election.<\/p>\n

Bwala flatly rejected the claim.<\/p>\n
\u201cTinubu didn\u2019t create a militia, and I never said that,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n
The denial immediately drew attention, given the existence of widely circulated clips from the period showing Bwala making strong accusations against the now-president.<\/p>\n
Hasan did not stop there. He also referenced earlier comments attributed to Bwala concerning alleged suspicious cash movements into Tinubu\u2019s residence during the election season.<\/p>\n
Again, the presidential aide denied ever making such remarks.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never said that,\u201d Bwala insisted.<\/p>\n
