Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has formally announced his intention to run for the 2027 Nigerian presidency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a dramatic shift in the country\u2019s political landscape. <\/p>\n
The declaration was made during a political rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, over the weekend, where Obi addressed a throng of supporters and party loyalists.<\/p>\n
He explained that his move from the Labour Party (LP) to the ADC was driven by concerns over the Independent National Electoral Commission\u2019s (INEC) recognition of party leadership. According to him, remaining in the LP could have jeopardided his ability to appear on the ballot.<\/p>\n
\u201cI left LP when I was informed that, as long as I remained there, INEC would not recognise its leadership, and there were moves to keep me off the ballot,\u201d Obi told the gathering, emphasising that his decision was strategic rather than ideological.<\/p>\n
Despite the challenges, Obi expressed unwavering resolve to pursue the presidency. \u201cI will contest the coming election, wherever it is conducted. And if they refuse to transmit election results, we will ensure the results are transmitted,\u201d he declared, receiving thunderous applause from supporters.<\/p>\n
Political analysts note that Obi\u2019s defection to the ADC adds a new dimension to the 2027 presidential race, potentially reshaping alliances and voter dynamics.
