\nShock and outrage have gripped Omifon community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State following the arrest of a 40-year-old landlady, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning her tenant\u2019s three-year-old son.<\/p>\n

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the disturbing incident stemmed from a disagreement between the suspect and the child\u2019s mother, Rofiat, who resides in the same compound.<\/p>\n

According to police accounts, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., when Lateef allegedly administered a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous to the toddler, identified as Abdulrasheed.<\/p>\n

Moments after ingesting the substance, the child reportedly began vomiting violently, prompting an emergency rush to a nearby hospital where he received urgent medical attention and was stabilised.<\/p>\n

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives acted swiftly after receiving the complaint.<\/p>\n

According to Jimoh: \u201cThe suspect allegedly gave the victim a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous following a misunderstanding with the complainant, who is her tenant. <\/p>\n

\u201cUpon receiving the report, police operatives carried out a swift, intelligence-led operation which led to the arrest of the suspect.\u201d<\/p>\n

The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of preliminary inquiries.<\/p>\n

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over domestic disputes escalating into violence, especially against vulnerable children, with residents calling for justice and stricter deterrence against such acts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
