The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has formally kick-started preparations for the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of a high-powered Policy and Manifesto Committee, signaling an early push to redefine its ideological direction and national appeal.<\/p>\n
At the heart of the initiative is a 50-member committee chaired by former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. Renowned political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, will serve as Deputy Chairman, while Salihu Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman (North West), has been appointed Secretary.<\/p>\n
The appointments were ratified by the party\u2019s National Working Committee and endorsed by ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, underscoring the leadership\u2019s intent to anchor its 2027 campaign on policy depth rather than electoral improvisation.<\/p>\n
In a statement released on Wednesday by the party\u2019s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the committee has been charged with developing a comprehensive manifesto that responds to Nigeria\u2019s most pressing challenges. These include governance reform, economic restructuring, national security, social development, and the strengthening of democratic institutions.<\/p>\n
The committee is expected to be formally inaugurated on Monday and brings together a wide spectrum of expertise, cutting across politics, academia, civil society, and public administration. Members include retired Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar, constitutional lawyer Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Prof. Anthony Kila, Pastor Funke Awowolo, Madam Jumoke Olawuyi, and Prof. Sam Amadi, among others.<\/p>\n
According to Abdullahi, the timing and composition of the committee reflect careful internal consultations aimed at achieving broad national representation. He noted that considerations of regional spread, religious balance, and professional diversity informed the final lineup.<\/p>\n
