Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has dramatically jettisoned his earlier plan to call witnesses in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism offences.<\/p>\n

Kanu, who had previously applied for a witness summons on some high profile Nigerians at the resumed hearing of his case on Monday told the Federal High Court in Abuja that after reviewing his case file, he has no doubt that he had no valid charge against him worth defending.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoin me in praising God. I have gone through my case file, and there is no charge against me,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no extant law in this country upon which the prosecution can predicate the charges against me. If there\u2019s any, let my Lord read it out to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I should not enter any defence in a charge that does not exist under any law in Nigeria. I urge you to release me today or grant me bail.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Justice James Omotosho, the presiding judge, told him to file a written address on his position and to serve the prosecution accordingly.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the judge advised Kanu leader to seek legal guidance before his final decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should consult experts in criminal law on the consequences of the option you have chosen,\u201d Justice Omotosho warned, and adjourned the matter to November 4, 5, and 6 for the adoption of final written addresses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
