A magistrate court sitting in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered the remand of Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, and Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s defence counsel.<\/p>\n

This was I respect of their participation in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest, in Abuja on Monday for which the police arraigned them and ten others.<\/p>\n

The protest, which was spearheaded by activist, Omoyele Sowore, was organised to press for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu who has been in detention since he was forcefully repatriated from Kenya in 2021.<\/p>\n

Kanunta Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, confirmed the development in a post on X on Tuesday, shortly after the court session.<\/p>\n

Kanunta said the order was part of a \u201cconspiracy among the executive, legislature, and judiciary to frustrate Kanu\u2019s trial scheduled for Thursday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, former National Human Rights Commission chairman, had disclosed from police documents that Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and ten others were facing charges, bordering on incitement and breach of public peace.<\/p>\n

The charge sheet alleged that the accused persons violated a court order by staging a protest that disrupted public movement, obstructed traffic, and chanted songs calling for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu.<\/p>\n

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, had earlier disclosed during an appearance on Channels Television that those arrested during the protest would be prosecuted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
